A South Florida man is in jail this morning after admitting to police that he killed his wife and posted a picture of her dead body on his Facebook page.

According to the arrest affidavit, Derek Medina, 31, said he shot Jennifer Alfonso, 26, at their South Miami home after she said she was "leaving him." When officers responded to the home, they found Alfonso's body, as well as her 10-year-old daughter, who was unharmed.

Court records show that Medina and Alfonso married in April 2012, got divorced and then were re-married.

The Miami Herald reports that Medina was a self-published author who wrote several e-books on topics ranging from saving lives to marriage and ghost hunting.

An 11-chapter book published in February 2013 titled, How I Saved Someone's Life and Marriage and Family Problems Thru Communication, is dedicated to four people, including his murdered wife Jennifer Alfonso.

In one of his books, Medina writes, "Love is not taking the easy way out to resolve the problems ... Love will hit you right in your face and knock you down."

The arrest affidavit reports:

Medina said the couple became involved in a heated argument in an upstairs bedroom when he armed himself with a gun and pointed it at her. He said Alfonso left the bedroom, returning later to say she was leaving him. He says he went downstairs and confronted her in the kitchen, when she began punching him. He claims he went back upstairs to get his gun and confronted her again, at which time she grabbed a knife. Medina said he was able to disarm her and put the knife in a drawer, but that when she began punching him again, he shot her several times.

Her gruesome likeness stayed online and was passed along for at least five hours, until Facebook was notified of the content.

Facebook eventually removed the picture and disabled Medina's page and that of his deceased wife.

From Medina's now-removed Facebook page:

I’m going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys takecare Facebook people you will see me in the news” my wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did I hope u understand me”

In his note, Medina accused his wife of abusing him and asked his friends for their understanding for what he did to her because of it.

Facebook friends commented on the photo in shock.

"That is my friend there."

"What happened???? derek."

"WHAT??????"
