A family doctor accused of a sex crime remains behind bars.

Robert Hunter, DO, is now facing abduction, kidnapping and four rape counts, all felony charges. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges this morning, online Montgomery County Jail records show.

Hunter, 45, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at his medical practice, 8701 Old Troy Pike in Huber Heights, by Five Rivers MetroParks rangers.

His arrest stems from a July 15 incident at Taylorsville MetroPark off Bridgewater and East National roads, according to a report, which stated a male suspect met the victim in the park. MetroParks rangers began its investigation after Dublin Methodist Hospital in the Columbus area forwarded a rape kit to the agency, the report stated.

MetroParks Chief Mark Hess said the incident reportedly happened around 2:30 p.m. in a parked vehicle at the park.

“This is two people who were in the park with each other voluntarily. And reportedly things developed or got out of hand from there,” Hess said.

The administrative office of Hunter’s practice said Thursday it had no comment about the allegations.

A nurse who worked with Hunter and is one of his patients contacted the newsroom to defend the doctor, saying the man she knows and trusts would never do something like this.

“I just got upset that somebody could make an accusation and ruin his whole career and his family,” said Rita Gregory. “I just wanted to say what a great person that he, and his family, they are.”

Hess said he can’t remember the last time his rangers had to investigate a serious crime allegation, such as sexual assault complaint.

“It’s very rare. You know the parks are extremely safe. We have very low crime,” he said.

UPDATE @ 2 p.m. (July 30)

The alleged sex crime occurred in a parked car on a service drive in Taylorsville MetroPark on July 15, according to a police report. The suspect, who is not named in the incident report, drove from Huber Heights and met the victim in the park, the report said.

Area law enforcement officials became aware of the alleged rape when Dublin Methodist Hospital in Columbus contacted the Montgomery County Dispatch Center, who relayed the message to MetroParks police. The hospital wanted to pass along a rape kit, the report said.

MetroPark officers said in the report that they went to Bridgewater and East national roads, where the victim’s friend said the assault took place, but they did not see any tire marks in the dirt and mud.
