When police arrived, they found a silver Hyundai Tucson that had been struck by several rounds. The vehicle was parked in front of one of the apartments. Officers had the vehicle towed from the scene.
The Dayton Daily News contacted Huber Heights police on Wednesday, but the department declined to comment while the incident is under investigation.
Loretta Ramirez said she made eye contact with the gunman moments before he began firing.
“I saw him standing next to the office building, and it was strange,” Ramirez said. “I saw him raise his gun and shoot towards another apartment.”
Ramirez said she slammed the door shut and scrambled to take cover—fearing the gunman would turn his attention to her. She told everyone in the apartment to get down and attempted to call police.
“I ran into the kitchen where I don’t have any windows,” she said. “I did not want him to start shooting at my apartment.”
The gunman fled the scene after firing his weapon. Seven shell casings were found at the scene, a police report said. Investigators searched the area for a victim. They have not reported that anyone was shot.
Ramirez said the gunman was less than 100 feet from her when he began shooting. She fears for herself and her neighbors.
“I have children,” she said. “It feels like this kind of thing is happening everywhere now.”
