A Montgomery County prisoner stole a jail division cruiser Wednesday evening on Dayton’s west side.

The prisoner was being transported by a deputy shortly before 5:30 p.m. when he stole the older model Ford Crown Victoria with “Montgomery County Jail Division” on its side, according to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center.

The deputy apparently was taken to Miami Valley Hospital after he was picked up by a Dayton police officer. The severity of the deputy’s injuries is not known.

The stolen cruiser was last seen on Helena Drive headed toward Main Street, reports indicated.

A Dayton police cruiser was involved in a crash with a Chrysler at 5:23 p.m. at the intersection of North Main Street and East Mumma Avenue, but it’s not clear whether it was connected to the stolen county cruiser case.
