Video from inside the jail shows the attack was unprovoked, and it's unknown why Brown attack Klumb, who was working at a computer at the time.
Five other officers rushed to Klumb's aid, pulling Brown off of her and tackling him to the ground. Officers are seen punching Brown in order to gain compliance as he tries to get up and hit officers. Sgt. Richard Whalen, a jail supervisor who completed a report on the incident, uses both his Taser to stun Brown as well as pepper spray. Brown is eventually placed in a emergency restraint chair, where he continues to fight officers until being placed in special housing, according to a report.
It's unknown why Brown was not restrained prior to the second attack, given the fact that he'd already attacked officers and was booked into jail for assault. Calls to the sheriff's office for comment and clarification were not returned Wednesday.
Five officers, including Klumb, were visibly injured in the assault, and three of them were hurt while trying to restrain Brown. All of the officers were checked out at area hospitals and have returned to work, according to the incident report.
Brown was charged with two counts of felony assault on a corrections officer. His attorney, Michael Pentecost, entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity on behalf of his client on Oct. 6. On Tuesday, Brown was ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation, according to Montgomery County Common Pleas Court records.
