1 in jail, 1 on lam from police pursuit

UPDATE @ 10:50 p.m. (Aug. 30): Anton Floyd Hurston Jr., 18, is being detained in the Montgomery County Jail pending the filing of a formal charge of receiving stolen property stemming from the police pursuit this afternoon that began in Miami Twp. and ended in Dayton.

Hurston was arrested in the 1500 block of Hochwalt Avenue, not far from where the car police were pursuing was abandoned on West Stewart Street.

According to a Dayton police sergeant, one other male who was with Hurston is still being sought by police.

UPDATE @ 7:20 p.m. (Aug. 30): A car being driven on a blown tire caught a police officer's eye and it led to the pursuit that began in Miami Twp. and ended in Dayton with one male in custody and police still searching for as many as three other male suspects from a robbery/carjacking in Middletown.

Miami Twp. Sgt. Mike Siney said one of his officers noticed the car this afternoon on state Route 741, near the Meijer store. The car matched the description of the one taken in the Middletown incident on Monday, he said.

“It was more or less a slow-speed pursuit until we got to this location, when they bailed from the vehicle,” the sergeant said, referring to the 1500 block of West Stewart Street near Danner Avenue in Dayton, where the suspects abandoned the car.

He said the pursuit continued fro Miami Twp. into Moraine, then into Dayton.

Siney declined to say whether the man taken into custody had a weapon on him. Police have seized the car.

The suspect search is continuing. If you see anything that might help police track down the remaining suspects, you are asked to call Montgomery County Regional Dispatch at 937-225-4357.

UPDATE @ 6:30 p.m. (Aug. 30): The stolen car was abandoned in the 1500 block of West Stewart Street, near Danner Avenue.

It was left in a front yard and apparently had been driven through schrubery and a fence.

Meantime, Dayton and Miami Twp. police are continuing their search for as many as three suspects stemming from the pursuit. They have blocked traffic on West Stewart Street at Danner Avenue as well as West Stewart at South Euclid Avenue.

Two K-9 units have been deployed in the area.

As best as can be determined from police dispatch radio communication, Miami Twp. and Moraine police picked up the pursuit a little after 5:30 p.m. in the area of state Route 741.

The pursuit continued north to Dryden Road before heading to I-75 North into Dayton. The car is believed to have exited the interstate at South Edwin C. Moses Boulevard before ending up in the area of West Stewart Street.

UPDATE @ 6:10 p.m. (Aug. 30): The vehicle pursuit has ended in Dayton and we're hearing police have one person in custody.

The people in the vehicle abandoned it in Dayton and ran in different directions.

We’re hearing police are looking for as many as three more suspects and they are searching a Dayton neighborhood in the area of Hochwalt and Tampa avenues.

FIRST REPORT (Aug. 30)

Police in the Dayton area are pursuing what is reported to be a stolen vehicle from a robbery in Middletown.

The pursuit is active but included areas of northbound Ohio 741, Edwin C. Moses Boulevard and Dryden Road around 5:50 p.m. Tuesday.
