Parents and teachers say they have concerns about an Urbana teacher who is in jail, and what the district is doing.

Tyler G. Wisse, 29, of Urbana, has been held without bond in the Tri-County Regional Jail since Sept. 5, the same day a Madison County judge issued a warrant accusing him of violating conditions of his probation following his June conviction for a misdemeanor OVI charge.

A woman who did not want to go on camera said she has concerns regarding the Urbana Elementary teacher.

A school website shows he teachers fifth-grade math.

Madison County Municipal Court records show he was charged for an OVI on Feb 19., and was subsequently convicted June 3. An ignition interlock — a device that requires drivers to prove they are sober before the engine starts — was required, along with two years of reporting probation in addition to fines and court costs.

“Why is this continuing to happen and the school district is not doing anything about him? That’s my question,” the woman said.

The woman said she wants the school district to hold the teacher accountable for his actions, and she said she doesn’t want him to be around students.

‘It’s scary. They are teaching people who are going to take care of us when we’re old,” she said.

The Urbana City Schools superintendent was unable to be reached for comment and has not yet returned messages regarding whether what action, if any, will be taken in this case.
