The murder trial is on hold for a Kettering teenager facing adult charges in the Labor Day weekend 2016 shooting death of a Fairmont High School student.

Kylen Gregory’s trial for the Sept. 4, 2016, deadly shooting of Ronnie Bowers had been scheduled to start Monday. However, the judge has granted a request by the defense for a continuance, Montgomery County Common Pleas Court records show.

The ruling by Judge Dennis Langer was made April 25 after a request “for reasons that were expressed to the court, in chambers with counsel for the state present” on April 23.

The next court date is May 17, according to Langer’s court.

Gregory was indicted on two counts of murder and related charges. He and Bowers were both 16 at the time of the shooting, which occurred about 9 p.m. on Willowdale Avenue in Kettering. Gregory turned 18 in March, according to court records.
