The League of Women Voters in Dayton was alerted to fraudulent activity this week on its bank accounts by its financial institution.

The nonprofit organization at 127 N. Ludlow St. in Dayton on Aug. 22 mailed two checks totaling $9,000 for its national and state league dues. At least one of the checks was cashed by an individual, according to a Dayton police report.

The individual signed the name “Terry Atherton” and one side of the check appeared to have been altered, a league representative told a Dayton officer.

No arrests have been made, and the crime remains under investigation.
