Man fires gun after firework set off; prompts SWAT standoff in Dayton

A man who fired his gun at a person who set off a firework Monday morning in Dayton was taken into custody after a SWAT standoff, according to 911 records.

The incident started just after midnight when a man on Livingston Avenue called 911 and said another man just shot at the caller’s grandson.

“I got a guy living in an apartment complex he just shot a gun at my grandson,” the man told a 911 dispatcher. “It hit his car. He came out yelling, ‘Who lit off a firework?’ and then he just popped a gun.”

No one was hit by the gunfire according to dispatch records.

The caller said the man came out “shooting, screaming, yelling” after his grandson parked his vehicle and set off a firework.

After firing the gun, the man went back into his apartment on Parnell Avenue.

Dayton police, SWAT and medics responded to the area.

The man was taken into custody just after 6 a.m., according to dispatch reports.
