FIRST REPORT (Jan. 19): Kettering police linked a man picked up early Friday morning on an outstanding warrant in Dayton to an alleged aggravated robbery that happened just a few hours earlier in Kettering.
Dayton police picked up Alex Sigmund, 31, in Dayton shortly after 3 a.m. for an outstanding warrant, according to Kettering Police. Kettering police received a call around the same time from a man in Beavercreek saying he had been robbed and sexually assaulted by a man matching Sigmund’s description outside a fast-food restaurant at 2901 Wilmington Pike in Kettering.
An officer interviewed the man at the Beavercreek address. He told police he was sitting in his car shortly after 1 a.m. at the McDonald’s when a man pulled out a weapon and forced his way into the car, according to police. The victim said the man forced him to drive to a bank in Dayton and withdraw money. The victim said the man then sexually assaulted him before leaving on foot, police said.
Sigmund was booked into Kettering jail on an outstanding warrant.
The victim identified Sigmund as the perpetrator in a lineup, according to police.
Officers went to the McDonald’s and were able to gather evidence, including surveillance video, that police said linked Sigmund to the scene.
Police presented evidence of aggravated robbery, kidnapping and rape to prosecutors, but prosecutors will only be pursuing aggravated robbery charges, Kettering police said.
Sigmund is being held on a $50,000 bond for a robbery charge. He is due in Kettering Municipal Court on Friday morning.
