Man indicted on murder charges in death of Mansfield couple

A Dayton man is facing murder, among other charges, in the death of a Mansfield couple and their unborn child.

Larry Rodgers, 31, was indicted on aggravated murder, involuntary manslaughter, kidnapping, felonious assault and having weapons while under disability in addition to the murder charges, according to court documents.

Kyla Hayton, 20, and her boyfriend, 28-year-old Todd Burkhart were found dead days apart.

Hayton was pregnant at the time of her death.

Rodgers is facing two counts of involuntary manslaughter because the incident “cause[d] the unlawful termination of another’s pregnancy.”

The couple was reported missing from Mansfield on Nov. 16.

Burkhart was found Nov. 22 in a vacant house on West Stewart Street. Hayton was found Nov. 25 in a different vacant house on the street.

The couple appeared to have died around the same time, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Rodgers was identified as a person of custody and arrested and charged for having a weapon as a convicted felon.

He is being held in the Montgomery County Jail.

Rodgers has been ordered to appear in court Thursday.
