Kevin Howard was also sentenced to three years of supervision following his release from prison and was ordered to pay $31,000 in restitution.
Howard pleaded guilty to aggravated arson and domestic violence on July 31. Felonious assault and abduction charges were dismissed by the court.
On April 18, firefighters were dispatched to the 300 block of East Nottingham Road after a neighbor heard fire alarms going off inside a home.

“I smell some sort of smoke and I hear an alarm going off and no one is responding,” the neighbor told 911 dispatchers. “I went and knocked on the door. I just want to make sure they are OK.”
Firefighters had to pull Howard from a bedroom during the house fire. He was taken to Grandview Medical Center before being arrested.
Howard initially faced domestic violence, aggravated arson, abduction and felonious assault charges.

The domestic violence change stemmed from an incident the night before the fire when Howard was accused of assaulting an ex-girlfriend, according to a court affidavit.
