Sentencing rescheduled for man who shot at Clay Twp. police, led chase

The sentencing has been delayed for a man who pleaded guilty to shooting at Clay Twp. police in November 2018 and then leading officers on a chase that ended in more gunfire.

Aaron Mitchell, 43, of Brookville, was convicted of two counts of felonious assault, two of failure to comply with the orders of a police officer and one of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises, according to Montgomery County court records.

He could face nearly 30 years in prison.

The charges come from Nov. 30, 2018, when Mitchell reportedly fired 10 shots at the Clay Twp. administrative building on Arlington Road, which also houses the police department.

When police came outside, Mitchell fled in a car, leading officers on a pursuit into Clayton. Eventually Mitchell ran over a tire deflation device on North Diamond Mill Road placed by an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper. According to police, he then pointed a gun at police, who shot him three times.

Officers later found messages and comments on Mitchell’s social media page alluding to death by police.
