A Miami County judge told a Piqua man he considered him “a risk to the community ” before sentencing him Monday to a year in prison for theft and trespassing in an occupied residence.

Steven Butt, 27, was sentenced in county Common Pleas Court by Judge Christopher Gee.

He previously pleaded to felony theft for stealing a credit card from a purse at a Piqua business in February and trespass in a habitation. In the latter case, sheriffs deputies deputies said he entered a Springcreek Twp. property in March while occupants slept to steal a key to a business.

Gee said he was concerned by Butt’s actions including an incident while out on bond where he was in a home without permission but the owner declined to seek charges. “I see you as a risk to the community,” he said. The judge told Butt to get mental health counseling and follow any medication orders after prison release.

Butt will be give credit for 133 days served in jail.
