Middletown man indicted in fatal crash in Warren County

Victim was a Hamilton resident and Fairfield High School graduate.

A 31-year-old Middletown man has been indicted for aggravated vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal crash on May 1 in Warren County.

Daniel R. Miller was indicted on two different aggravated vehicular homicide charges and two counts of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or a drug of abuse charges, according to a list released Monday by the Warren County Common Pleas Court.

Eric A. “Tony” Ruff, 26, a front seat passenger in the car being driven by Miller was “partially ejected” and died in the crash, according to the coroner’s office.

Ruff was a 2009 graduate of Fairfield High School, according to his obituary. He obtained a bachelor of science in criminal justice in 2013 at Thomas Moore College, where he also played football.

Ruff was employed as a correctional officer for the Warren Correctional Institution, according to his obituary.

A 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by Miller, went off the left side of the road on a right hand curve and struck a guardrail before overturning and struck some trees, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Two passengers in the back seat and the driver in the single-vehicle accident suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Miller is scheduled for arraignment on July 21 at 8:30 a.m. in Warren County Common Pleas Court in Lebanon.
