$1 million bond set for Brittany Russell murder suspect

A Dayton man has been charged in the shooting death of Brittany Russell in early February.

Curtis Howard Burdette, 37, is charged:

  • One count aggravated murder (prior calculation and design)
  • One count murder (purposeful)
  • Two counts murder (while committing felonious assault)
  • Two counts felonious assault
  • One count having weapons while under disability (prior offense of violence)
  • One count endangering children, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office.
  • Bond set at $1 million    

UPDATE @ 2:38 p.m.:

Bond was set at $1 million for Curtis Burdette in court today and his next court date was scheduled for March 14 at 2:30 p.m.

A plea was not entered by the judge or the suspect and a pubnlic defender will be appointed for him.

INITIAL REPORT:

Russell, of Middletown, was found shot to death Feb. 10 inside her car in an apartment parking lot in Dayton. Her 6‐month‐old daughter, who was alive, was also inside the vehicle.

All of the counts, except for having weapons while under disability and endangering children, have three‐year firearm specifications attached.

Burdette remains in Montgomery County Jail where he’s been since Feb. 12.

The case is ongoing and remains under investigation. The case will be presented to the Montgomery County grand jury at a future date.
