The widow of an Ohio man shot to death exactly 23 years ago cried on Thursday after learning the former Lebanon furniture salesman accused of his murder was in jail in Arizona.

“Certainly she was in tears, probably in relief,” Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell said Friday during a press conference announcing the arrest of Sam Perone, 67, of Phoenix, Thursday.

Fornshell was referring to Susan Schneier, the former wife of Richard Woods, 41, of Dublin, Ohio, whose body was discovered in a wooded area alongside Middleboro Road in Washington Twp. on Nov. 9, 1992.

Earlier this week, detectives from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office went to Phoenix, and with the help of the Phoenix Police Department and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, served a search warrant on Perone’s home and took him into custody.

On Oct. 1, a Warren County grand jury issued a secret indictment of Perone for Woods’ murder.
