Police are looking for a person apparently targeted by homicide suspect Erik Michael Evans, who shot himself to death early Tuesday during an officer-involved shooting.

Dayton officers found a note on Evans, 32, in which he confessed to killing one person and claimed he tried to kill a second person he did not name.

“Mr. Evans did have a note on him at the time of his death that indicated he had in fact killed our victim and also alluded to that he may have tried to kill another person, but stated that person got away,” Dayton police Lt. Jason Hall said.

“There was no time frame given, but we would obviously like to speak to that person,” Hall said.

Evans was the suspect in the death of 26-year-old Cora Rose Grubb,of Kettering, who was found Monday inside Evans’ South Hedges Street home. Police are still working to learn what led Grubb to Evans’ home and how they were acquainted.

Officers received information late Monday morning that some bodies could be inside the house, Hall said.

Homicide detectives forced their way into the home after securing a search warrant before finding Grubb’s body.

It is not clear when she died nor how long she had been inside.

There was a “very strong smell of decomposition” when detectives entered the house, Hall said, noting Grubb’s death was “not a recent event.”

He noted she had not been reported missing.

Evidence at the scene indicated a possible dismemberment, according to police.

“During the autopsy and preliminary examination by the coroner’s office we learned that was not the case,” Hall said.

The police investigation is continuing and detectives are working to speak with anyone connected to the incident.
