Pedestrian critically injured in hit-and-run crash in Dayton

A 51-year-old Dayton man is in critical condition after he was hit by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash on Catalpa Drive Monday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., the man was attempting to cross the street in the 2000 block of Catalpa Drive when he was hit by a car heading north, according to a crash report.

The driver “immediately fled the scene without stopping and properly identifying themselves,” the report read.

The man was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and is in critical condition, according to a hospital representative.

According to dispatch records, a caller told police that a car hit a man crossing the street, then fled the area.

The caller said the man was unconscious but breathing, according to dispatch records.

The crash temporarily shut down Catalpa Drive between West Norman and Shelton avenues.

Police are looking for a white or gray Chevrolet Malibu or Impala that is expected to have heavy front-end damage to the right side following the crash, according to initial reports.
