FIRST REPORT (Nov. 5)

A distraught Dayton parent contacted our newsroom Thursday afternoon stating her 6-year-old daughter was assaulted by a teacher on Monday at Pathway School of Discovery. The mother said she was contacted by Dayton police detectives today and made aware of the incident. She stated detectives told her to have her daughter interviewed at Care House about the alleged incident.

Sgt. Monica Evans of the Dayton Police Special Victim’s Unit, confirms they launched an investigation into an alleged incident at the school on Monday, but she would not provide additional details citing the case involved juveniles.

Pathway School of Discovery, a charter school, educates children kindergarten through 8th grade, according to the school’s website. We contacted the school’s administrative offices for comment but have not received a return call.

The mother of the child allegedly involved provided a name of the teacher to our newsroom. We are not releasing the teacher’s identity at this time, but a man matching the name provided was booked in to the Montgomery County Jail Wednesday on charges of gross sexual imposition. He’s expected in Dayton Municipal Court this afternoon.

A check of Ohio Department of Education public records does list a teacher employed at Pathway School of Discovery, matching the name of the man jailed, and the name provided by the parent of the alleged victim. We are working to confirm further details.
