Police: Drug users creative with light bulbs

Drug users in Shelby County are getting creative.

Sheriff’s deputies and Sidney police discovered this week how light bulbs are being used as drug paraphernalia for smoking drugs.

During a recent raid at a Sidney home, police seized drugs, cash and two old light bulbs.

“Light bulb’s totally different than anything we’ve seen locally here; we passed it on to other agencies,” said Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart. “It’s very unusual.”

NewsCenter 7’s Steve Baker reports today on law enforcement’s newest discovery — how an old part of a light bulb is used as drug paraphernalia.

Lenhart said in this case, the light bulbs were used to smoke crystal meth out of.

“The other thing that’s unusual about it is meth seems to be making a comeback,” Lenhart said.

Drug paraphernalia is described as “any equipment, product or material that is modified for making, using or concealing drugs, typically for recreational purposes.”
