Man killed in Bowen Avenue shooting in Dayton identified

A man killed in a shooting on Bowen Avenue Thursday night has been identified.

Phillip Wolliver-Blythe, 47, of Dayton, was pronounced dead on Thursday, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

A cause and manner of death have not been determined at this time.

Homicide detectives were called to the 400 block of Bowen Street after a male who was shot there died at the hospital, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch records and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Dispatch records said that officers were dispatched to that location at 7:41 p.m. after receiving reports of a male who was shot and on the ground. Initial police scanner traffic indicated multiple callers were reporting the shooting.

Records said that the male was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.

Coroner investigators confirmed that the hospital contacted them after the victim died, although no information was available as they had not reached the victim’s family when we spoke to them.
