Man pistol whipped, shot in Dayton, according to 911 caller

Police are investigating after a man was reportedly shot and pistol whipped in Dayton Tuesday morning.

Crews responded to the first block of South Smithville Road just after 6 a.m. after the man’s mother called 911 and said her son just called and told her he had been shot.

“He said he’s pulling into Smithville Market,” she said.

The woman said when her son first called he said he had been pistol whipped.

“He called back because I said come straight here and now he said he’s shot,” she said.

Her son reportedly told her he was shot by two people.

Details on his injuries and condition were not available at this time.

Dispatch records indicated the incident initially took place at South Irwin and East Fourth streets.
