Police seek witnesses to fatal Dayton crash

Police are asking for any witnesses to a fatal crash last month to come forward.

The two-car crash happened around 11:20 p.m. March 27 at the intersection of Philadelphia and Cornell drives.

A local husband and father of two, 27-year-old Stacey D. Cooley Sr. of Dayton, died the next day of his injuries at Miami Valley Hospital, according to the traffic crash report.

Cooley was driving an amethyst 2000 Pontiac Bonneville east on Cornell Drive when he was struck by a silver 2001 Pontiac full-size sedan headed south on Philadelphia Drive driven by 22-year-old Sheneika L. Allen of Harrison Twp.

It was dark and raining when Cooley’s car was struck on the driver’s side. The impact forced his car to hit a curb and utility pole and it overturned in the crash, the report stated. Allen also was taken to the hospital and both cars were towed from the scene. One of the drivers ran a red light at the intersection, but police don’t know which one. Also, Allen was suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the crash report stated.

Cooley, known as “Frame” to his friends and family, was survived by his wife, LaTonja Sheldon, son Stacey Cooley Jr. and daughter Antonia Drake, as well as his parents, four sisters and eight brothers, according to his obituary.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the crash is urged to call Dayton police Detective McDonald at 937-333-1141.
