A man who is the suspect in the stabbing death of his mother is now in jail, accused of breaking into a home and stealing a gun.

Taylor Wesley Walter, 27, was arrested after Perry Twp. police were dispatched around 8 a.m. Thursday to a home on Johnsville-Brookville Road on a report of a break-in. Brookville and Clay Twp. police officers also responded, and determined that the suspect found the homeowner’s 9mm handgun, according to a release from the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

Walter is the primary suspect in his mother’s homicide. The body of Donna Walter, 60, was found Feb. 12 in the Brookville Pyrmont Road house in Perry Twp. she and her son shared.

Taylor Walter was arrested within about two hours on a preliminary charge of murder, but later was released pending further investigation.

At the time of his mother’s death, Walter was under indictment for a felony drug case and had a warrant for his arrest for OVI from Clark County.

The prosecutor’s office said despite this, Walter was released on a conditional own recognizance bond over strong objections from the prosecutor.

On Friday, the prosecutor approved charges of burglary and having weapons while under disability against Walter.
