Chattanooga police officer Nicholas Galinger, a Cincinnati native, was killed Feb. 23, 2019, by a hit-and-run driver in the line of duty. He will be laid to rest March 1, 2019, in Clermont County, Ohio.

A procession of marked law enforcement vehicles from Montgomery County will head to Cincinnati this morning to honor a Chattanooga, Tennessee, police officer Nicholas Galinger, who was killed in the line of duty.

Galinger, a Cincinnati native and father of two, was fatally struck Feb. 23 by a hit-and-run driver.

Police officers from Montgomery County will meet at the University of Dayton Arena. The procession will leave at 8 a.m. for Galinger’s funeral at 11 a.m. at the Mount Washington Presbyterian Church, 6474 Beechmont Ave. in Cincinnati.

Galinger will be laid to rest at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Union Twp., Clermont County.

Galinger, 38, graduated from the police academy in January, according to the Chattanooga Police Department. He was struck while on a call with his field training officer, and was outside the patrol vehicle when a passing SUV struck him. He died of his injuries at a hospital.

Chattanooga Police Chief David Roddy said the community “lost not just an officer. We lost a son, a father, a friend and a protector.”

More than 40 Chattanooga police officers, including 21 who graduated with Galinger last month, also will attend their fellow officer’s funeral, the department posted on social media.

The suspect, Janet Elaine Hinds, 54, turned herself in. She was wanted for vehicular homicide in Galinger’s death, the police department said.
