A reward is being offered by investigators seeking Daniel Calhoun, 19, also known as Javion Houghley, who is wanted in a May 14 shooting in the area of Young Street in Middletown.

Calhoun is accused of shooting a 17-year-old girl.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to his arrest and prosecution. Calhoun is considered armed and dangerous, so people are encouraged to not approach him.

Anyone with information should contact the ATF at 1-888-ATF-TIPS (888-283-8477), email ATFTips@atf.gov, or contact ATF through its website at www.atf.gov/contact/atf-tips. Tips may also be submitted to ATF using the ReportIt app or by visiting www.reportit.com. Tipsters may also contact the Middletown Division of Police at 911 or 513-425-7700.

Warrants have been issued for Calhoun’s arrest for felonious assault and weapons under disability.

Middletown police Major Scott Reeve said last week that people at the house and witnesses were not truthful at the beginning of the investigation.

Officers were called to a residence in the 1300 block of Young Street about 10:40 p.m. The girl was in the living room suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim’s brother told police he was walking on Young getting ready to cross 14th Avenue when he heard two gunshots and saw an SUV driving away. He said he heard his sister scream and found her shot in the alley, then carried her into the house.

The teen’s mother called 911 reporting her daughter had been shot.

“I think my daughter was shot in the alley,” the mother told dispatchers. “My daughter was in the alley and she just came in and she said she was shot. She is bleeding… she is starting to lose consciousness.”

Reeve said an investigation revealed the girl was shot in her bedroom and pointed to Calhoun as the shooter. He added the teen’s mother told the dispatcher information relayed to her by another person. The incident stemmed from a boyfriend/girlfriend argument, police say.

In the 911 call the mother and the girl indicated she was shot between the legs.

Reeve said detectives believe the shooting was purposeful.

“He (Calhoun) is still running. He hasn’t turned himself in,” Reeve said. “I believe it was a purposeful act.”
