Second spanking claim against Waynesville leader

For the second time, a Waynesville supermarket owner has been accused of spanking someone in his office at the store.

In a civil lawsuit filed Tuesday in Warren County Common Pleas Court, Ronald Kronenberger is accused of spanking a “mentally disabled” man three times at the Hometown Marketplace store in Waynesville and once at another location in Waynesville.

Kronenberger, 53, of Waynesville was granted diversion on March 7 in an assault case filed by a former tenant who accused Kronenberger of striking him on the buttocks on Jan. 20 with a belt in a dispute over more than $2,000 in overdue rent.

Magistrate David Chicarelli told Kronenberger - a well-known businessman and former Citizen of the Year in Waynesville - that the assault charge would be dismissed if he stayed out of trouble for six months.

Police said they had no record of incidents claimed in the lawsuit filed on March 26 by a lawyer on behalf of the alleged victim, identified as a Warren County resident “who is known around the Waynesville area.”

The lawsuit claims Kronenberger spanked the alleged victim, a volunteer at the store, with a belt and paddle in November and December, three times at the store and once at another location in Waynesville.

The lawsuit claims assault and battery, and seeks damages from Kronenberger and the business.

Kronenberger and his lawyer declined comment. The alleged victim and his lawyer could not be reached.
