The officer was directed to a parked vehicle, where a Lebanon 17-year-old was seated in the passenger seat. He declined medical treatment at the scene, saying his friend was taking him to the hospital for evaluation.

The victim said he was talking with a co-worker when her boyfriend saw them and became upset, according to police.

“The (male) approached (the victim), and the two began arguing. In the midst of the argument, the male suspect struck (the victim) several times, causing him to go unconscious, according to his friends, and fall on the ground,” the officer wrote in the report.

The victim told police it was a misunderstanding and he did not wish to pursue any charges. The officer told him to contact police if he changed his mind.

Detective Levi Wells said the victim suffered more serious injuries than originally thought, and a felonious assault charge was filed against the suspect, Bailey W. McAfee, 18.

Wells said the investigation is ongoing. Eight people are listed on the police report as witnesses to the incident. Wells said he could not “confirm or deny” whether there was video of the incident.

According to the complaint filed against McAfee, “(he) did cause serious physical harm to a 17-year-old victim. McAfee was engaged in a physical confrontation in which he picked up the victim off his feet and with great force slammed the victim head first onto the concrete.”

The court document said the victim suffered a skull fracture, arterial bleeding, epidural hematoma and swelling of the brain.

The victim was in fair condition Thursday at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

McAfee remains housed in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond. His case was bound over to a Warren County grand jury for consideration following a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Mason Municipal Court.
