An early-morning shooting left a 19-year-old Sinclair College student dead in his parents’ Huber Heights garage, police said.

A frightened witness told 911 his friend, Sorin Farcas, was shot in the head on the 7300 block of Charnwood Drive around 3 a.m. on Memorial Day.

“Oh my God, my friend just got shot in the head,” the caller said. “I just ran to the back, I’m really scared.”

“Is your friend beyond help?” the dispatcher asked during the call.

“He’s dead,” the caller replied. “They shot him in the head, dude.”

Huber Heights Sgt. Brad Reaman said Farcas and the witness were both in the garage when a male approached. Farcas was shot, and the suspected shooter — described as a male wearing a red hoodie — left the scene in a car.

Police have not identified a suspect.

Farcas was pronounced dead about 10 minutes after police arrived, the sergeant said. An autopsy will be conducted.

The sergeant described the neighborhood as a quiet one and raised a concern that the Charnwood Drive homicide is the fourth violent crime call in Huber Heights in the last 10 days.

Farcas enrolled this spring at Sinclair College as a math major, said Deena John, a Sinclair College spokeswoman. Prior, Farcas was involved in the school’s Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium. Students who elect to participate in Tech Prep may earn college credits while in high school and are eligible to receive a Sinclair scholarship, she said.

“The faculty, students and staff of Sinclair College extend their deepest sympathies to the Farcas family,” John said.

Fracas’ father said an older son is due to return home next week from military duty.

Police ask that persons with information about this case call 937-233-1565.
