Ex-Tipp City firefighter sentenced for stealing

An ex-Tipp City firefighter and paramedic who stole fire department pagers and sold them on eBay was sentenced Monday to two years of community control and ordered to pay $2,700 restitution.

Brandon Wolters, 26, formerly of Tipp City and now of Fairborn, waived a Miami County grand jury's consideration of allegations against him. He pleaded guilty July 1 in Miami County Common Pleas Court to felony theft in office.

Wolters was accused of taking seven pagers from the West Main Street Fire/EMS station now under construction. Fire Chief Steve Kessler reported the theft on April 18. The police report listed the pager values at $415 to $450 each.

The pagers were sold on eBay to people across the country, Tipp City Detective Sgt. Chris Graham said. Some pagers subsequently were resold.

Wolters told Judge Robert Lindeman he made a mistake and was sorry. Because of the criminal conviction, Wolters will be banned for life from public office, public employment or a position of trust in Ohio.

City Manager Jon Crusey said Wolters was placed on administrative leave for a short time and then fired.
