Marshals also arrested his brother, Joseph Rosebrook, 59, on Monday in Florida, where he is in jail awaiting transport to Geauga County, according to detectives.
The two are suspected to be connected to the murder of Daniel Ott, 31, of Chardon, in Geauga County.
Ott was shot and killed in his home in May 2006 by a masked intruder. His girlfriend was the only witness to the crime, according to other media reports at the time. Geauga County detectives didn’t return calls seeking comment.
Authorities have charged a third person in connection to the death, but haven’t released that person’s name.
Joesph Rosebrook has a criminal history in Logan County.
He was released from prison in March 2014 after serving 10 years on a conspiring to commit aggravated murder charge.
Logan County detectives said Joseph Rosebrook was charged with running a “chop shop” and a large criminal enterprise. While out on bond for that case, phone records indicated he attempted to have a hit-man hired to kill a key witness in the case, detectives said.
Residents in Perry Twp. were surprised by the recent allegations against their elected trustee.
“That’s crazy,” said Charles Kuch, of West Mansfield. “It’s hard to believe someone would do that here.”
Brian Tracey has known the brothers nearly his entire life. He said this doesn’t sound like the men he knows.
“I was kind of shocked,” Tracey said. “I don’t believe it 100 percent.”
He described the men as the type of people who will give you the shirt off their back.
“They’ve always been good to me,” Tracey said. “I wouldn’t think a single one of the them would even have a thought to do something like that.”
