A trial has been scheduled Dec. 14 for an Oakwood police officer charged with disorderly conduct after a March bar fight in Tipp City.

The trial for Jeffrey Watkins, 41, of rural Tipp City, was set Thursday during a pretrial hearing for Watkins on the minor misdemeanor charge. Watkins and his twin brother, Jeremy, of rural New Carlisle, were charged by Tipp City police as a result of a March 11 incident at Tony’s Bada Bing on West Main Street. They pleaded not guilty in Miami County Municipal Court.

The trial for Jeffrey Watkins is set for the morning before Magistrate Gary Zuhl. A trial for Jeremy Watkins is scheduled in the afternoon, according to court records.

A Miami County grand jury heard evidence in the Tipp City incident but did not return any indictments. Documents filed in September in county Common Pleas Court stated that jurors considered the allegations regarding injuries suffered by another man during the altercation but declined to issue an indictment.

Tipp City Police detective Sgt. Chris Graham said a man received a serious eye injury during the altercation, and the man’s wife was hit in the face and knocked to the floor.

Graham said the situation inside the bar was chaotic, and police cite people when they can determine the primary aggressors.
