Underage alcohol arrests at Smithville liquor store

A 19-year-old Dayton man was arrested for underage alcohol and drug possession Monday evening after police officers witnessed him buying a bottle of tequila from a local liquor store.

A clerk at Smith's Liquor was also issued a summons to appear in court for selling the bottle without checking the teen's ID.

According to a police report, officers spotted Quentin Howard Jr. as he was attempting to park a fire zone outside of the store, 1024 S Smithville Rd. He saw the cops and moved his car into a legal spot, but not before they ran his license plate and discovered he was driving on a suspended license and was 19 years old.

Police waited for Howard to come out of the liquor store and stopped him while he was carrying a bottle of 1800 Tequila. He also had 10 pills of generic Xanax wrapped in some toilet paper in his possession.

He was arrested and then police went to talk to the clerk at the liquor store.

Mohamad Farhat said he didn't check Howard's ID because the man had shopped there before. Howard admitted to using a fake ID the first time he purchased liquor at the store, according to the report.

The owner of the store was notified and Farhat was issued a summons to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge of selling liquor to an underage person.
