The woman charged with murdering her ex-husband in one of three deadly incidents of domestic violence last year in Warren County will get a second opinion on her sanity at the time of the killing and on her competency to stand trial.

Mercedes Robb, 35, is accused of gunning down her ex-husband, Jason Robb, 35, of Lebanon, on Nov. 3, as he waited in the driveway of the former family home outside Lebanon to pick up their children for school.

On Tuesday, Judge Robert Peeler agreed to pay Dr. Kara Marciani up to $2,500 to examine Robb and render an opinion within 30 days.

“She’ll be meeting with Mercedes this week to start on her work,” Robb’s lawyer, Andrea Ostrowski, said during a hearing Tuesday in Warren County Common Pleas Court.

Ostrowski sought a second opinion after the first examiner hired by the court found Robb competent to stand trial and decided she failed to meet the standards allowing her to enter a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.

Peeler did not rule on Tuesday on Robb’s request for a furlough for her mother to take her to see her rheumatologist.

She remains in the Warren County Jail on $500,000 bond.
