Widmer home sold in sheriff’s sale

Ryan and Sarah Widmer’s foreclosed house sold for $110,000 today, Jan. 11 in a sheriff’s sale.

The bidding started at $110,000 and was purchased by U.S. Bank. There were no other bidders for the home. The Widmers paid $194,520 for the two-story home in March 2007.

The home on Crested Owl Court in Hamilton Twp. was the focal point of the notorious murder trial that riveted the region in 2009.

Ryan Widmer , 29, was convicted of murder for allegedly drowning his bride in the bathtub of the home in August 2008. He was sentenced to 15 years to life on April 2, 2009, following a two week trial and 22 hours of jury deliberations. But in a bizarre series of events, Warren County Common Pleas Court Judge Neal Bronson granted Widmer a new trial last fall after he determined jurors committed misconduct. Some jurors admitted to experimenting at home to see how long it takes to air dry after bathing. The crux of the case was the drowning scene was virtually dry, which led jurors to believe Widmer staged his 911 call after he killed his wife.

U.S. Bank filed the foreclosure on April 13 and is seeking $189,062 plus interest, court costs, late charges, taxes and insurance. Widmer stopped making mortgage payments in November 2008. He is free on a $400,000 bond and living with his mother Jill Widmer in Mason.ß
