Dairy Queen unveils ‘game-changer’ menu overhaul

Dairy Queen today unveiled what it calls its largest new menu rollout in its 75-year history.

Each Dairy Queen has installed new ovens used to prepare the chain’s new “DQ Bakes!” menu, which includes three hot desserts served a la mode, three sandwiches and three wraps.

“This is a game changer for our system,” Barry Westrum, executive vice president of marketing for Minneapolis-based American Dairy Queen Corporation, said in a release. “The artisan-style sandwiches, snack melts and hot desserts give us a tremendous competitive advantage.”

Dairy Queen franchise owner Jacquie Nelson, who oversees locations in Kettering and Carlisle, said customer response to the new items “has been very good, especially for the snack wraps.”

There are 22 Dairy Queen shops in the greater Dayton-Springfield region. The chain is celebrating its 75th anniversary today.

American Dairy Queen Corporation consists of 6,500 Dairy Queen stores in the U.S., Canada and 25 other countries. The chain is part of the Berkshire Hathaway group of companies led by investor Warren Buffett.
