The RoomPlace will take the space of the Old Navy store. A barricade is already up that will remain throughout construction for the new furniture store, according to a statement from the mall’s owner Washington Prime Group.
“We appreciate the community’s support during this exciting renovation and expect minimal disruption to normal business at Dayton Mall. We are excited about the addition of these in-demand retailers and continue to explore opportunities to add new and interesting uses for our guests,” said mall manager Dave Duebber.
Here’s what’s happening at the Dayton Mall now:

1. Construction will start soon
A barricade is up and graphics will be added soon to show what’s coming.
2. Some stores are moving
City Gear, an urban footwear and apparel retailer will move temporarily to a location near H&M. Meowza, a cat adoption shop operated by the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, is relocating to an inline space near JCPenney.
The Maurices store at the Dayton Mall has closed. City Gear will move into the space permanently once renovations are complete.

4. Talks are surrounding vacant department stores
The Dayton Mall doesn’t own either of the major vacant retail spaces left behind by Sears and Elder-Beerman bankruptcies. Seritage, a spinoff from Sears that owns real estate, owns the Sears store. Elder Ohio, a trust registered in Delaware, owns the Elder-Beerman real estate.
Washington Prime Group “continues to assess options in order to be in a position to leverage redevelopment opportunities with respect to these spaces,” according to the release.
5. More to come?
The Dayton Mall has been expanding its entertainment options, restaurants and stores as consumer shopping habits change. There are more deals in the works for the mall with details to come as they are finalized.
