22-year-old from Dayton sentenced after shooting at vehicles

A 22-year-old from Dayton was sentenced to prison after he was convicted of shooting at motorists on U.S. 35 near Liscum Drive in Dayton. Michael J. Blair will spend a range of 11 to 12 and a half years in prison on six counts of felonious assault, according to a release from Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck Jr.

Police responded to U.S. 35 West near Liscum Drive after reports that someone was shooting at motorists during rush hour. Officers found bullet holes in one vehicle and spoke to eyewitnesses of the shootings. They reported that Blair was hanging out of a silver Pontiac Grand Prix while firing at passing vehicles.

The incident stemmed from a dispute between Blair and another person, the release said. Multiple vehicles were struck, but no gunshot wounds were reported. The incident took place on May 14.

Blair was indicted on May 23. At the time of the incident, Blair was on probation, having previously been convicted of burglary in 2016. Blair was also sentenced to four years in prison for a federal weapons offense last year.

“Multiple vehicles were struck as a result of this defendant’s actions,” Heck said. “Thankfully, no one was shot even though this shooting occurred on a busy highway during rush hour traffic.”
