Dayton police on Saturday retrieved from protesters an American flag removed from the Dayton Safety Building during protests surrounding the Minneapolis officer-involved death of George Floyd.

Police officers protecting the Safety Building on Saturday afternoon saw protesters rush the pole, cut the rope holding the flag and take it down. They ran off with it, officers said.

“I want it back,” one officer said to others.

A bicycle unit went to the protesters who had the flag and retrieved it.

Officers then took a moment to properly fold the flag, a moment a Dayton Daily News photographer captured.
