FIRST REPORT

A Dayton teen charged with impersonating an officer, aiming a gun at an officer and committing a Miamisburg armed robbery before being wounded by police is set to return to court today.

Charles Vincent Ashford, 18, is scheduled to appear before Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Barbara Gorman. He is accused in the Feb. 5 robbery of a Shell on Byers Road.

Authorities said Ashford robbed the Shell and sought to flee the scene by trying to carjack vehicles in the Ohio 725/Interstate 75 area before an off-duty Miami Twp. police officer wounded him in the arm.

The chaotic scene attracted safety forces from multiple jurisdictions to quell a situation a judge said put “potentially hundreds of people” at risk, and it resulted in the Dunbar High School student — who was 17 at that time — being indicted on adult charges.

In all, Ashford - who has no criminal record - is accused of 10 felony charges, with each of them involving a gun specification.

Not guilty pleas were entered on Ashford’s behalf last month. A court-appointed attorney, Jeffrey Gramza, has been assigned to represent him, court records show.

He is being held in juvenile detention on a $500,000 bond.
