Dayton Unit of the NAACP to host virtual conference Monday

The Dayton Unit of the NAACP is hosting a virtual conference to discuss the impact of economic policies on communities of color. It will be the first of a two-part conference.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on Monday and the monthly community meeting will begin at 6:45 p.m. The NAACP announced in a release that there will be a second meeting, though the date and time has not yet been announced. The conference will take place over Zoom.

Rolan Winburn, chair of the NAACP Economic Development Community, Brian Martin, executive director of the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission and Derrick Forward, president of the NAACP Dayton Unit will moderate.

The panelists and speakers include Senator Sherrod Brown, Representative Emilia Sykes, Vice President of Policy Analysis and research for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Menna Demessie, Senior Project Director of Policy Matters Wendy Patton, Policy Bridge Executive Director Gregory Brown and Representative Fred Strahorn.

Economic inequality and stability facing African Americans and is a major focus of the NAACP’s work. The NAACP’s dream for every person is to have equal opportunity to achieve economic success, sustainability, and financial security, a release said.
