Saken said McDonald’s is targeting a late spring/early summer opening, depending on the weather. The total project cost is $2.3 million, Huber Heights assistant city manager Scott Falkowski said.
The site — which sits on a little more than an acre — will feature a new 6,000-square-foot restaurant, double drive-through, seating for 100-plus customers, a playplace, landscaping upgrades, and a three-window drive-through to improve efficiency and accuracy.
“The city of Huber Heights has been an exceptional partner in this project,” Saken said. “They’ve been very receptive and supportive because they know what this new restaurant will mean for customers and the community around it.”
The project also includes approximately $70,000 in road improvements to Merily Way, which McDonald’s and the city are splitting in half, Falkowski said. The city’s portion will come from the street fund, he said. Another lane will be added to Merily Way off of Old Troy Pike to alleviate traffic in that area.
“They are upgrading an existing site, which is a great thing for the community,” Falkowski said. “The city is excited about the investment into the intersection. With the improvements to Merily Way, it helps other businesses down the road.”
There are two other McDonald’s in Huber Heights, both on Brandt Pike — 6398 Brandt and 7680 Brandt inside the Wal-Mart.
The McDonald’s on Merily Way was built in 1977. The existing restaurant is 5,400 square feet and serves about 90 cars per hour in its current drive-through configuration. The new double drive-through configuration will allow it to serve 125 to 135 cars per hour.
The Merily Way employees will be transferred to other restaurants during construction, Saken has said.
