The new restaurant will fill the space that formerly housed the El Pueblo and Sammy’s Gourmet Burgers & Beers restaurant that shut down in early August after five years. It also formerly housed Encore restaurant.
The new Doubleday’s had been in the works earlier this year, but a leasing dispute temporarily scuttled the deal. The dispute resulted in Doubleday’s parent corporation filing a lawsuit in Warren County Common Pleas Court against the owner of the Springboro building, Springboro physician Dr. George Kaiser. The lawsuit was filed July 17, before El Pueblo closed.
Thomas said an agreement has been reached with Kaiser that will settle the lawsuit and result in its dismissal.
“There are no hard feelings, and we are excited about the opportunity to feed all of Springboro,” he said. “For myself and my brother Steve and sister Stephanie, this is a dream come true.”
The location on Ohio 741 in front of Dorothy Lane Market’s Springboro store offers great visibility, Thomas said.
“It’s close to Austin Landing, which will be good for exposure, but it’s also easy to reach, and it has a neighborhood feel — it feels like a Mom-and-Pop location,” he said.
The new restaurant’s menu will include the soups, sandwich and pizza favorites from the Cross Pointe location, with some specials that will be distinct to Springboro, Thomas said.
Thomas’ aunts and uncle operate the Golden Nugget Pancake House on South Dixie Drive and West Dorothy Lane in Kettering.
