>> Lock 27 owner Steve Barnhart issues a challenge to Dayton area in open letter
The brewery will host a party on Friday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. to celebrate the first ever release of its popular Mouth Breather IPA and Lock Tender Golden Ale in cans.
Lock 27 will be tapping 4 specialty beers to mark the occasions including Raspberry Lock Tender Golden Ale, Blueberry Lock Tender Golden Ale, Pineapple Mouth Breather IPA , Mango Mouth Breather IPA. Can’t decide which one to try? You’ll be able to purchase a flight of all 4 beers for $5 that night.
The first 50 people to purchase 6-packs will receive a limited edition pint glass & 2 Lock 27 koozies.
“It’s part of the evolution of the brewery, and we couldn’t be more excited,” Lock 27 founder Steve Barnhart said.
“It’s limiting for us to be available only in draft,” Barnhart said. “Tap sales have been great for us, but this move will open up the marketplace for us, and we want to widen the availability of our beers.”

Beers available in cans now in Lock 27’s brewpubs include a Testcanone NEIPA and Alpheus Russian Imperial Stout. The first two core beers to be released in cans widely will be Lock 27’s Mouth Breather IPA and its Lock Tender Golden Ale. Plans call for adding two or three more brews to the core products available year-round, and also for canning some limited-production seasonal and specialty beers for retail sales, Barnhart said.

Barnhart has lived in the Dayton area since 1984. He spent 15 years working in corporate development at NCR. An avid home-brewer since 1997, Barnhart opened Lock 27 in Centerville in June 2013, and opened his much larger brewery and restaurant adjacent to the Dayton Dragons Fifth Third Field in September 2017.

The Lock 27 accomplishment adds to the amazing resurgence of the Dayton-area craft brewery scene in which more than a dozen breweries have opened in the last six years, and none has shut down. Several local breweries, including Warped Wing, Yellow Springs Brewery and Dayton Beer Company, are now canning their products for retail sales at local grocery stores and carry-outs.
