DPS superintendent candidate withdraws from search

One of the candidates for Dayton’s school superintendent post has withdrawn his name, school board members said before their meeting Wednesday.

Trent Mosley, academic superintendent for turnaround schools in the Cleveland school district, withdrew from the search via e-mail, citing family issues, according to Dayton Public Schools officials.

The school board is hosting a community forum at 5 p.m. Friday at River’s Edge Montessori School, where the public can meet the finalists for the superintendent post.

But school board President Adil Baguirov said Wednesday that he doesn’t expect to announce that list of finalists until Friday morning.

The remaining candidates are DPS Chief of School Innovation David Lawrence, DPS Chief of the Office for Exceptional Children Greg Roberson, former Kettering Superintendent James Schoenlein, former Clark County ESC Superintendent Stacia Smith, Indianapolis Public Schools Area Superintendent Rhonda Corr, and Daniel Schroer, superintendent of Margaretta schools, a small district east of Toledo.

Also Wednesday, DPS attorney Jyllian Guerriero said the process of choosing a new treasurer for the school district is still ongoing.

The district is replacing outgoing superintendent Lori Ward after six years, and treasurer Craig Jones after three years. Both of their contracts expire this summer.
