Dunkin' Donuts shops throughout the Dayton and Cincinnati areas will seize the occasion to formally introduce two new flavors of doughnuts — Vanilla Cake Batter and Dunkin' Donuts Sprinkles —and will offer customers a free doughnut with any beverage purchase on Friday.
The offer is good all day Friday. And no, the freebie doughnut doesn’t have to be one of the new flavors, although a beverage purchase is required.

Here’s how a Dunkin’ Donuts release describes the chain’s two new flavors:
“The Vanilla Cake Batter Donut features vanilla-flavored cake batter filling, frosted with chocolate icing and topped with confetti sprinkles, while the Dunkin’ Donuts Sprinkles Donut is frosted with white icing and topped with pink and orange sprinkles shaped like the brand’s iconic ‘DD’ logo.”

The new flavors made their debut this week and will be available through the summer.
National Donut Day was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I, Dunkin’ Donuts officials said. The holiday is traditionally celebrated on the first Friday of June.

The Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and breakfast chain has been expanding throughout the region. The greater Dayton area’s sixth Dunkin’ Donuts shop opened last October at 1310 Woodman Drive in Riverside. It is the fifth Dayton-area location launched by franchise owner Pat Gilligan, who is responsible for reinvigorating the Dunkin’ Donuts brand in southwest Ohio. In less than three years, Gilligan opened new Dunkin’ Donuts shops in Sugarcreek Twp., Springfield, Kettering, and Centerville.

Prior to Gilligan’s franchise deal, Dunkin’ Donuts’ once-robust presence in the Dayton area had shrunk to one location on Springboro Pike (Ohio 741) near the Dayton Mall, which operates under separate franchise ownership.
Originally a doughnut and coffee chain, Dunkin’ Donuts has expanded its offerings in recent years to include frozen and iced beverages as well as bagels, muffins, breakfast sandwiches, bakery sandwiches and wraps.
