Firefighters started a search and rescue operation in heavy smoke while starting to fight the fire, eventually finding the woman.
The fire division said that medics provided life-saving care and took the woman to Springfield Regional Medical Center.
While fighting the fire, a firearm inside the house discharged and shot a firefighter, who was taken to the hospital as well. According to the release, the firefighter didn’t sustain life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
As crews fought the fire on Piqua Place, a second fire was reported in the 500 block of Mount Vernon Fire, where crews found a fire in the basement of a three-story home.
The second fire was quickly brought under control, the release said, and firefighters revived one of two pets in the home by administering oxygen.
