Former Dayton nightclub set to be auctioned off

The building where a former Dayton nightclub was located is set to be auctioned off later this month.

The property is located at 135 E. 2nd St. in downtown Dayton and housed the Aquarius Club until it was shut down three years ago. In 2013, the building owner told WHIO that he was selling the building and evicting the tenants who ran the club due to issues of overcrowding and fire hazards.

The club was known as a popular place for the LGBT community in Dayton.

The on-site auction — presented by broker and auctioneer Ric Moody — is scheduled at noon June 28. The former nightclub has multiple bars, stages and dance floors on two of the four levels, according to Dayton Commerical Realty. The building includes a working freight elevator and two staircases.

According to the realty company, the property could be transformed into a new bar, nightclub, brewpub, loft or retail shop. Built in 1940, the location is within blocks of Kettering Tower, Fifth Third Field and Riverscape Metro park.

Prior to the auction, an open house will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. June 23.
